A likely book club edition (but not so stated). James Michener (1907-1997) served in the US Navy in World War II in the South Pacific. With the end of the war, he wrote this novel based on his adventures there which became a springboard to his long and fruitful writing career. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948 for 'Tales of the South Pacific', which was made into a very popular musical play by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II entitled 'South Pacific'. --- In orange quarter cloth over orange paper-covered boards. Volume bears the original 1947 publication, but this facsimile of the first edition likely published c.1950s-70s. Titling in black on spine.
