With additional illustrations scattered through the book. --- In dark red cloth-covered boards with embossed decorations and Washington's silhoutte to front and back covers, very faded gilt-stamped spine titling & decorations. --- With a prior owner's sticker to front paste-down, an inked signature in an elegant hand to front endpaper dated July 4, 1860, and later owners' signatures. Frank Coe, the author's father, was a principal in the vast Coe Ranch, near present-day Glencoe, New Mexico. He was also a major player in the famous Lincoln County War, which also featured Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett and many others. Includes an introduction by Peter Hurd. --- With 4 maps, 3 color plates (2 of which with Hurd paintings), and a section of black & white plates. In green and coral cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped apple and author initials on cover. Titling and branding iron also in gilt on spine; green topstain. Jacket features a Hurd painting on the cover, and a back cover map of the trails in the Lincoln County area in the 1870s and 1880s. --- A very nice copy, but with whitish discoloration to topstain, coffee-like stain to lower textblock edge and glued-on Alfred A.
