A Modern Library reprint edition of author's satirical fantasy novel which was cited as a major factor in his being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1921. Includes an introduction by H.R. Steeves. --- In Toledano spine 8, w/blue cloth-covered boards, gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks, black topstain, orange Kent endpapers. Likely published c.1940 (though 1933 date appears in book). Lacks the dust jacket. The author had worked as a poet and journalist before trying his hand at prose, which was met with success. This copy with photo of Anatole France in his study loosely taped to front of volume. --- In Toledano spine #2 / dark brown leatherette ("Croftleather") limp boards / gilt spine titling & horizontal bars / gilt Modern Library/BL device, cover / Brodzky illustrated M-L endpapers / lacks the dust jacket.
