Stated First Modern Library Edition, 1966. An English-language collection of stories by the noted Polish-born American Jewish writer who wrote in Yiddish. Includes selections from his "Gimpel the Fool", "The Spinoza of Market Street", and "Short Friday." Edited and with an introduction by Irving Howe, translated from the Yiddish by various translators. The author's novel, originally written in Yiddish and published in 1960, in a handsome Limited Editions Club edition. Printed for members of the Club by the Anthoesen Press of Portand, Maine, with color lithographs by Larry Rivers. Number 1353 of a limited edition of 1500 copies. Signed on rear colophon page by both I. B. Singer and Larry Rivers. --- In natural Irish linen-covered boards with gilt-stamped Nigerian goatskin back. The colophon page erroneously describes binding materials, corrected by a laid-in errata slip. Volume housed in grey paper-covered slipcase with gilt titling on end. LEC Monthly Letter & extensive trove of newspaper obituaries and tributes to Mr. Singer laid in. Glassine wrap not present. Number 5 in LEC Series 47. --- With a little rubbing to spine, otherwise a bright, firm and unmarked copy. Slipcase with dark smudges and some rubbing, otherwise in good shape and structurally sound.
