A complete set of Leon Edel's comprehensive five-volume biography of Henry James (1843-1916), the prolific American-born novelist, playwright and critic who became a British citizen in 1915. Mr. Edel drew on unpublished letters of James, who was granted access by the James family. Each volume with black & white frontis portrait of James at varying times in his life; as well as several other b&w illustrations scattered throught the volumes. Vol. 1 is a 4th printing, 2 and 3 are 2nd printings and 4 & 5 are first editions. Mr. Edel was awarded the 1963 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for volumes 2 and 3. --- Each volume in rust cloth-covered boards with cover and spine titling in gilt and silver; black spine blocks. Similar-looking jackets with horizontal colored bands in brown, green and yellow, green, or tan. --- Volumes are generally in excellent shape: clean, bright and unmarked.
