The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit

By: DICKENS, Charles

Price: $117.00

Quantity: 1 available

A striking, elegant edition of the sixth novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), first published serially in 1843. 'Martin Chuzzlewit' did not achieve the high level of popularity of some of Mr. Dickens's other works, but it was considered by him to be his best work. Issued as part of publisher's Dickens's Works series. With 38 illustrations by 'Phiz' [Hablot Knight Browne]. --- Bound in tan half calf over marbled red/gold/blue paper and with elaborate decorations and titling stamped in gilt on spine. With five raised back bands. Endpapers in the same marbled papers as on covers. All edges in very bright gilt. This volume undated, but likely published c1860s-1870s. --- An exceptional copy of this classic. With previous owner's bookplate affixed to front paste-down and some chafing to cover edges. Textblock is firm and lacks interior markings. Overall, this volume would make for a nice addition to the Dickens collector's shelf. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xiv, 624 pages
