Irish author's controversial landmark novel in a complete and unexpurgated Modern Library reprint copy. With a foreword by Morris L. Ernst; and includes the text of U.S. Judge's ruling, allowing the publication in USA. A letter from the author to Bennett Cerf (publisher of Modern Library and Random House) is reproduced, clarifying the agreement for U.S. publication of this work. --- In Toledano spine G5 with full red cloth covers, gilt titling & decorations on black blocks on cover & spine; publisher's black topstain, plain endpapers. Jacket style Gd, verso advertises 360 titles in ML catalog. 1946 date appears in volume, but likely published c.1952. ML #G-52.1. --- With some minor discoloration and rubbing to covers, lightly yellowed leaves; otherwise a firm, unmarked copy. Dust jacket is with a lot of chipping (most noticeably at spine ends), rear flap detached but present, and with sunfading to spine; in removable mylar protector.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xvii, 768 pages
