A nine-volume set comprising the author's lectures on history. John Lord (1810-1894) was a Darmouth College lecturer in history. Topics include: Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance & Reformation, Warriors & Statesmen, Great Women, Modern European Statesmen and American Statesmen. Also included are two of his "First Series" volumes, covering Jewish Heroes & Prophets, and Old Pagan Civilizations. --- In full maroon cloth-covered boards with Statue of Liberty, torch and titling stamped in black and gilt to covers and spines. Top edges gilt. Publication dates range from 1883 to 1894. Volumes lack dust jackets. --- Generally a clean, firm set but with a little foxing to leaves and insignificant wear to cover edges.
