First printing. This little gem of a book offers over 400 comments by notable writers on their fellow writers (and sometimes on themselves) which at times can be rather vicious. For example, Vladimir Nabokov is quoted as saying "James Joyce has not influenced me in any manner whatsoever"; or Elizabeth Bowen on Aldous Huxley: "He is at once the truly clever person and the stupid person's idea of the clever person. . .". With amusing drawn caricatures of many of the authors quoted here by Tullio Pericoli. Indexed. --- This compact volume in blue paper-covered boards backed in black cloth, with spine titling in silver. Jacket features pen-as-dagger art by Pericoli. --- A very nice copy: bright, unmarked and tightly bound. Unclipped jacket with slight soiling, else nice.; 16mo (6 to 7 in. tall); vii, 152 pages
