An illustrated reprint edition of Mark Twain's 1883 work, which has been described as "part travel book, part autobiography and part social commentary". In publisher's "Holiday Edition", with color frontis and 8 black and white illustrations by Walter Stewart. --- In black cloth-covered boards, Stewart's color frontis illustration pasted to cover (and repeated on jacket), with gilt-stamped spine titling. Likely published c.1930s-40s, though 1917 date appears in book. Jacket bears original $2.50 flap price. --- With a small hole to cloth at mid-spine and loss of spine gilding; penciled gift inscription to front fly page & inked notation to rear endpaper, else a clean, sturdy and unmarked copy. Poor only jacket with plenty of tears and chips though cover illustration remains bright and protected in removable mylar wrapper. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; vii, 527 pages
