Number 55 of 61 in this limited "Posse Edition". The 17th in the series of "Brand Books", as issued by the Denver Posse of The Westerners group. These books consist of historical vignettes, biographical profiles and other historical stories from somewhere in the American West. This 1961 version includes stories about Colorado newspapers and their publishers, a history of the fires that devastated Cripple Creek, and descriptions of Indians in the West; among other topics. The stories are accompanied by lots of black & white photos, maps and drawings with artwork by Robert B. Cormack. Edited by Don L. Griswold. --- In white-covered boards with cow skull on cover & titling on cover and spine; all in gild. Off-beat dust jacket with illustration of cow skull with flowing locks and cowboy hat on cover; verso features caricatures of Posse members in nooses by Cormack, with caption "No noose is good noose...". --- A clean, bright, firmly bound copy lacking damages worthy of mention. Cripple Creek map and newspaper facsimiles are mentioned in the table of contents but are not present.
