Book club edition. A 1955 impression ("with corrections") of the new edition of 1939. A treasury of poetry by some of the leading names in English-language verse. Poems selected and edited by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, who supplies footnotes for archaic words and a pair of prefaces. With index of first lines at rear of volume. --- In full navy cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped titling on cover & spine and with gilt spine decorations; blindstamped cover fillet. Volume in simple blue dust jacket. --- With a printer's error at mid-book, resulting in pretty severe ink bleed-through to about 12 leaves for early 18th century poems such as by Samuel Johnson and Thomas Gray; making for difficult reading of those poems. Otherwise a clean, tightly-bound, bright copy. Jacket displaying a little back panel soiling, else nice and protected in removable archival mylar protector, which has been taped to the covers of the book.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall) ; xxxii, 1166 pages
