A very attractive facsimile of the 1937 Nonesuch Press edition of the fourth novel by Charles Dickens. The story first appeared in installments in the author's weekly "Master Humphrey's Clock", in 1840 and 1841. The story is centered around Dickens's lovable Little Nell character, who is forced to flee London with her aged grandfather to escape from the wicked moneylender Daniel Quilp. Illustrated throughout with well-preserved original engraved illustrations, mostly by George Cattermole and "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Browne). --- In light brown cloth-covered boards backed in dark brown leather, with titling in gilt on brown spine label; gilt titling on front cover, along with Nonesuch device on brown leather oval; sewn-in red satin ribbon bookmark. Volume wrapped publisher's stiff paper band, which in turn is wrapped in heavy mylar cover. --- A clean, tightly-bound, unmarked copy. Band and mylar jacket also in excellent shape. Overall, this pleasing, hefty volume allows the reader to fully enjoy the masterful storyteller's classic tale.
