The story of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad is told, with over 540 illustrations in the form of black & white photos, engravings and drawings, as well as maps and four color paintings by Howard Fogg. The authors trace the growth of this "baby" railroad into a line with routes throughout the Rockies of Colorado, New Mexico and Utah (many of which were narrow gauge). With route maps at endpapers. Signed by both authors on half title page. First trade edition, following a limited "Timberline" edition. --- In full grey cloth-covered boards with D&RGWRR emblem in black to cover, spine titling in black. Jacket features Otto Kuhler color painting of two Rio Grande locomotives passing each other high in the Rockies. --- An excellent copy, clean and bright but with slight edgewear, otherwise lacking significant damages.
