A monumental eight volume set, chronicling the various voyages and explorations of English sailors by Richard Hakluyt (c.1553-1616). This work was originally titled "The Principall Navigations, Voiages and Discoveries of the English Nation made by Sea or over Land to the most remote and farthest distant quarters of the earth, at any time within the compass of these 1500 years." First published between 1589 and 1599, Hakluyt told of journeys to Russia and far northeastern Asia, India and the East, and to the New World in great detail. With an introduction by John Masefield.
