Known as "Effendi" (based on his initials FND), Mr. Doubleday worked at Charles Scribner's Sons for eighteen years before launching the first of many ventures which carried the Doubleday name: "Doubleday & McClure Co." in 1897. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with cover & spine titling and elaborate scrollwork in gilt; mustard yellow endpapers. Volume wrapped in simple white jacket which lacks printing on spine, back panel and on flaps. --- A well-preserved copy: tightly-bound, unmarked and sturdy.
