
The first collected edition of poems of Emma Catherine Embury (1806-1863) in an 1869 issuance. Mrs. Embury was a frequent contributor of poems and stories to various magazines of her day, and, per Wikipedia, was ". . .considered among the pioneers of female literature in the United States." Includes an unattributed preface. --- In full blue cloth-covered boards with decorations to covers & spine in gilt. --- With scuffing and soiling to covers, paper was inserted at three locations, resulting in stains to the adjoining rectos and versos (6 total leaves with staining). In addition clover leaves were inserted at 5 spots, leaving 10 leaves with staining. With a partial tear at rear hinge which doesn't affect the stability of the binding and with residue from clover pressed at rear of volume, otherwise a tightly-bound, sound copy.
