An undated, probable first Everyman's Library edition (1910), so indicated by lack of subsequent printings on the blank copyright pages. A complete three volume set of Plutarch's famous biographies of notable Grecian and Roman personages. Born a Greek and later a Roman citizen, Plutarch intended these biographies to be read by either Grecians or Romans. Translated from the Greek by John Dryden, and revised by Arthur Hugh Clough (who also supplies an introduction). Index to all three volumes at rear of Vol. III. Numbers 407, 408 & 409 in Everyman's Library "Biography" series, edited by Ernest Rhys. --- In 'flatback' binding style 1, full blue-grey cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front covers, brown topstain and fancy Knowles woodcut art at title pages, endpapers & frontis. Volumes lacks the dust jackets. --- With a little chafing and small tears to cloth at spine ends, some partial splits (which don't affect the stability of the bindings), else a well-preserved, unmarked, sound set.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xxvii, 546, vii, 581, vii, 522 pages
