"Our Mutual Friend" is concerned with a case of mistaken identity, and explores the greed and general corruption that sometimes accompanies the accumulation of money. Includes an introduction by G. K. Chesterton. Entry 294 in Everyman's Library Fiction series, edited by Ernest Rhys. Undated, but possibly published c.1918-24. --- In flatback binding style 1, full carmine cloth-covered boards with Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover, dark topstain and fancy Knowles woodcut art at frontis. Lacks the dust jacket. --- A Fair-only copy with missing title page, tears to cloth at front and rear joints, prior owner's signature & penciled notations to first few pages. The post-WWI imitation gold leaf to spine has tarnished to mostly black, else an intact, fully readable copy.
